Obama honors 4 Indian-American scientists by Presidential Early Career Awards

US President Barack Obama has honored 4 Indian-American scientists by naming them for the prestigious Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. It is the highest honor given by the US Government to science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers. Speaking on this occasion Obama said, "Discoveries in science and technology not only strengthen our economy, they inspire us as a people". "The impressive accomplishments of today's awardees so early in their careers promise even greater advances in the years ahead," he added. This award has been given to 96 researchers including four Indian origin Scientist. 4 Indian-American scientists who have been awarded are: National Science Foundation :Parag A. Pathak, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sridevi Vedula Sarma, Johns Hopkins University, Department of Health and Human Services, Biju Parekkadan, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Pawan Sinha, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers was established in 1996 by the then President Clinton. The awardees are selected for their pursuit of innovative research at the frontiers of science and technology and their commitment to community service as demonstrated through scientific leadership, public education, or community outreach. Source: News Track India
