By Yulia Monakhova, In June 2012 the Pentagon published a report that revealed that, for several years, suicide has remained the second largest cause of death among American soldiers on active duty. The cause of suicides is the psychological trauma that leads to the development of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. Any individual can be at risk. Soldiers leaving active duty, the survivors of a natural disaster, or even teenagers and young mothers – all of them regardless of their age, social, or cultural status can be at risk of developing PTSD.Much like the human immune system, the human mind protects itself in stressful situations with the help of a special mechanism. Most often a person in a stressful situation can drastically change his attitude to life and/or himself. Such a person tends to think, act, and even feel in such a way in order to repress difficult memories.
