Foreign powers have been urged to take action to prevent Syria turning into a bloodbath on a scale seen in notorious conflicts in Bosnia or Rwanda. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon drew a comparison between the situation in Syria and the international community's failure to protect people from past massacres. Addressing the current assault by regime troops on opposition stronghold Aleppo, Mr Ban to the UN Assembly: 'The acts of brutality that are being reported may constitute crimes against humanity or war crimes. 'Such acts must be investigated and the perpetrators held to account.' And he added: 'The conflict in Syria is a test of everything this organisation stands for. 'I do not want today's United Nations to fail that test.' Source: The Coming Crisis
