The famous hacking collective Anonymous has admitted that it has successfully hacked several British government websites, including that of the Foreign Ministry and the Justice Ministry. According to the group’s blog on Twitter, the attack was carried out in retaliation for Britain’s handling of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The decentralized Anonymous group that consists of hackers and web activists has become famous for their impudent attacks on websites of governments and big corporations. However, after several arrests of suspected members of the collective, many people started to believe that the special services could put hackers under their control. The FBI officials even risked to announce that the most active members of the group were forced to be informers, and the threat posed by Anonymous and other similar groups was eliminated once and for all. Nevertheless, the new attacks on the British government portals show that hackers have no intention to give up them. Symbolically, they are proved to be linked to Julian Assange who has always been supported by Anonymous. Meanwhile, the situation related to legal proceedings against the WikiLeaks founder has long been out of control of the British authorities even without the interference of web activists.Since mid-June, Assange has been in the Ecuador embassy in Knightsbridge, London, where he has taken refuge from the British authorities who decided to extradite him to Sweden. Assange and his supporters reasonably believe that the Swedish government will immediately extradite him to the U.S. When taking into account demands by several American politicians that Assange must be executed as terrorist, it’s easy to understand that the WikiLeaks founder can expect nothing good in the U.S. Source: Voice of Russia, Image
