Obama wins second TV debate with Romney

President Barack Obama got ahead of Mitt Romney in the second presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., on Tuesday night. All instant polls showed Obama having a 7-point edge over Romney. A CNBC survey even says that Obama enjoyed a 17% win over his Republican rival.
The second TV debate gave some hope for the Obama team discouraged by the failure during the first debate on October 3. The results of the second debate do not, however, make Obama the most likely winner of the upcoming elections. In the U.S., it is very difficult to regain leadership if you fail at least once. This time Obama sounded less polite and more aggressive. There even was a moment when he managed to take Romney down a peg or two. When the two discussed the death of the US Ambassador to Lybia in Benghazi, Obama rejected Romney`s accusations that the US administration did not offer enough assistance to the embassy. Mitt Romney accused the White House of providing false information on the circumstances surrounding the attack on the embassy. Now the two candidates are scheduled to meet in a final debate on foreign policy issues in Florida next Monday. Romney is not considered an expert in foreign policy, so Obama is likely to enjoy a higher rating again. Anyway, Romney is not likely to do much harm to Obama`s image now that all the hottest issues have already been discussed. Even Tuesday’s success gives Obama no guarantees. Although Romney’s campaign is no longer as dynamic as it used to be in the beginning, both candidates are running almost neck and neck. A survey conducted by Reuters showed 46% of the respondents ready to vote for Obama on the day of the debates, while 43% answered they would give their votes to Romney. On the same day the Gallup research company reported that Romney had a 4-point edge over Obama. The outcome of the voting is likely to be determined by the results in the swing states, where 77 electoral college votes are expected to decide everything. Americans choose members of the Electoral College, which comprises 538 electors who officially elect the President. The final round of debates is due to take place on October 22. It is not likely to change the current balance of forces between Obama and Romney before the November 6 presidential elections. Source: Voice of Russia
