The First Indian Breast Cancer Survivor's Conference was held at Hotel Four Points by Sheraton on Nagar Road on 6th and 7th October. It was organized by Breast Friends Pune and Women’s Cancer Initiative.
Apart from discussions about medical advances in breast cancer treatment, the conference had equal emphasis upon creating awareness about Breast Cancer and about the post treatment care required for the breast cancer patients. Over 200 breast cancer survivors and their care givers attended the conference from cities like Mumbai, Pune and Nashik.A banquet followed later in the evening where renowned Film Personality Smita Talwalkar, a cancer survivor herself, narrated the way she fought the disease and said best way is to take the medical treatment is with a positive spirit. On the second day of the conference over 200 women participated in ‘Walk for Cause’ event, where actress Sagarika Ghatge (Chak De Fame) lead the group of survivors, doctors, care givers and supporters on a walk from the Aga Khan Palace to the venue of the conference.
