United States President Donald Trump and his wife first lady Melania have tested positive for Covid-19 and will start quarantine barely a month before the US presidential election.
Confirming the matter, Trump tweeted, “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

He made the announcement after tweeting that Hope Hicks, one of his closest advisers and top senior aide of White House, had tested positive for coronavirus.
Hope Hicks has traveled with the President multiple times recently, including to the debate in Cleveland on Tuesday, and was seen boarding Marine One, along with several other of the President’s closest aides – none of them wore masks – on Wednesday as Trump heading to a campaign rally in Minnesota, the Associated Press (AP) reported, citing an administration official.
While it’s unclear what Trump’s “quarantine process” will look like, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines states that a 14-day quarantine should take place after exposure to someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 because the incubation period for the novel coronavirus can be up to two weeks.
Hicks, who serves as a counselor to Trump, is the most senior White House official to so far tested positive for Covid-19.
The coronavirus has killed over 200,000 people in the United States, making it the world’s highest death toll. Meanwhile, Trump has been criticized for his response to the pandemic, including playing down the threat and refusing to abide by public health guidelines including wearing masks.
