Rahul, Priyanka released from detention

India’s Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi have been released from detention. However, they were detained by the Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday while they were on their way to meet the family of a 20-year-old Dalit woman who was gang-raped.

Rahul has complained that the police had pushed him down and charged him with sticks. His sister Priyanka Gandhi was also there with him at the time.

Rahul Gandhi wants to meet the family of the victim along with the Congress leaders. However, the authorities issued section 144 to stop them.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh police disallowed Rahul from reaching there. After that, Rahul started arguing with the police. At that time the police warned him that you are violating section 144. In reply, Rahul was heard to say, you are abusing section 144.

“Why are you arresting me? What are the grounds for the arrest? Please tell the media,” the former Congress president said in a heated exchange with policemen, who said that they were charging him with ‘Section 188’ - a law on defying official orders. Source: https://www.daily-bangladesh.com/
