Sudan sending hundreds of troops to Yemen

A battalion of Sudanese troops arrived in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden on Saturday, military officials said, bolstering Saudi-led Arab forces trying to keep out the Iran-backed Houthis and curb the growing presence of Islamist militants.

The Middle East Eye online news portal reported on Friday, citing several private sources in Saudi Arabia, that 1,018 Sudanese army officers and soldiers had arrived in the Saudi city of Jazan by sea from on September 22.

In addition, two planes carrying military personnel from Sudan landed at Najran Airport in Saudi Arabia. An unnamed source said Sudanese troops were brought to Najran province a day before they arrived in Jazan province.

The first, which held 123 passengers, arrived at 7.23pm, while the second took 128 passengers, the source said.

Sudan's interim Prime Minister Abdullah Hamduk said the number of Sudanese troops stationed in Yemen had been reduced from 15,000 to 5,000 in December. They have now deployed military personnel.

Since March 26, 2015, Saudi Arabia has been waging military aggression in poverty-stricken Yemen. The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, and Sudan have joined the military offensive against the impoverished country. Source: https://www.daily-bangladesh.com/
