He announced the names in his hometown of Wilmington in the state of Delaware on Tuesday, local time.
According to the BBC, Antony Blinken will be the Secretary of State in Biden’s office. “The United States would soon restore relations with other countries,” Blinken said, after knowing his position in the new administration.
Former Secretary of State John Kerry, who has signed a nuclear deal with Iran, has been named Special Presidential Envoy for Climate. “The world needs to work together to address the climate crisis,” he said.
Avril Haines is going to be the Director of National Intelligence. “I have chosen a professional and a fearless person in the path of truth for this position,” Biden remarked after announcing her name.
Alejandro Mayorkas is going to be the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. “The great goal of this office was to enhance our glorious history as a country of cooperation and warm welcome to stay safe,” he said.
Jake Sullivan is set to become White House National Security Adviser. “I learned a lot about politics from him,” Sullivan said, praising Biden: “I have learned a lot about human nature in particular.”
Linda Thomas-Greenfield is going to be the US ambassador to the United Nations. She brought to work the culture of the southern roots of the state of Louisiana.
Former Federal Reserve Chief Janet Yellen is being touted as Treasury Secretary. However, her name was not announced that day.
If all goes well, Avril Haines will be the first female director of the US National Intelligence. Alejandro Mayorkas is set to become the first head of homeland security as of Latin American descent.
Announcing the names of the six officials, Biden said the United States is back in shape and ready to lead the world. “We will not back down from here,” he added.
