Global COVID-19 death toll tops 1,563,000


In the last 24 hours, 584,413 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus around the world while 11,714 died from the pandemic. The United States has registered the highest number of deaths from the pandemic and infections during the period. 

As of Wednesday morning (09-12-2020), a total of 68,567,526 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 1,563,130 while 47,462,104 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data. 

The US, the worst-hit country in the world, has registered 2,913 deaths and 208,121 new cases in the last 24 hours. The country is still at the top in coronavirus deaths and infections. A total of 293,398 people died in the country due to the pandemic and 15,591,709 have been infected so far. 

Brazil has registered the second-highest death toll of 796 during the time. With this, the tally of fatalities from the pandemic has risen to 178,184 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 6,675,915 as 47,850 new cases were confirmed during the period. 

European country Italy has seen the third-highest death toll of 634 in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 61,240. The total number of cases has exceeded to 1,757,394 with 14,842 new infections. 

Germany has reported 18,319 new coronavirus cases, taking the overall caseload to 1,218,325. The death toll due to COVID-19 climbed to 20,161 with 622 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours. 

In the UK, 616 more people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 62,033. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 1,750,241 as 12,282 new cases were confirmed during the period.
