New Delhi: Aamir Khan met a parliamentary panel to provide inputs on medical issues. Rajya Sabha MP Shanta Kumar announced that the actor had given his views on the issue of drug pricing. Kumar heads the parliamentary standing committee on commerce. Doctors invited by Aamir to an episode of Satyamev Jayate telecast on multiple channels last week spoke of doctors taking payments, or “cuts”, from fellow medics for referring patients to specialists or to testing laboratories, and from drug companies for prescribing medicines. Broadcast on May 27, the episode also addressed issues like overpricing of life-saving drugs. The episode on turned the spotlight on medical misdemeanours in India, angering sections of doctors, but many in the medical profession say the episode merely laid bare widely known practices. The fallout of the show has been noteworthy. Parliament has only now passed a bill on stringent action against those guilty of child sex abuse, and the Rajasthan government has promised to create fast track courts which will resolve pending female foeticide cases in the state.Source: News Bullet
