Biden picks ex-general Austin as defense secretary

Newly elected US President Joe Biden has appointed retired General Lloyd Austin as his Secretary of Defense. Michèle Flournoy was running for defense secretary in the Biden administration, however, she did not become the country’s first female defense secretary after appointing Austin.

For the first time in US history, Austin has been assigned to the Secretary of Defense as a black person. Austin has previously led US forces in the Middle East under Barack Obama.

With his appointment, Austin was given the responsibility of one of the most important ministries in the Biden administration. Austin will be in charge of the Pentagon, the largest and most important agency in the US government.

However, analysts believe that the Biden administration has chosen the “right person” for the job due to Austin’s skills and successful performance in the past.

Lloyd Austin has served seven years as head of the Obama administration’s Central Command.

Besides Secretary of Defense, Biden has already decided who will be the Secretary of Health and Human Services. He made the decision due to many important responsibilities of the Department of Health and Human Services amid the COVID epidemic. He has appointed California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to lead the Health and Human Services.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky has been assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Biden has previously appointed Anthony Fauci as the chief health adviser. It is to be mentioned that Joe Biden will take over as the 46th President of the United States on 20 January. Source: https://www.daily-bangladesh.com/
