Adele sketch sets BBC YouTube record

A sketch from BBC One’s Adele at the BBC special has been viewed more than 37 million times in just two weeks, making it the most-watched video ever on the BBC YouTube channel. The comedy sketch – ‘When Adele wasn’t Adele… but was Jenny! – has broken the previous record of 36.9 million views. It became an instant global hit on the BBC YouTube channel after being featured in the programme, a one-off special broadcast on November 20th on BBC One. The television show has now been watched by 5.8 million people and an extended version featuring previously unseen footage will be shown on BBC One on January 1st. The previous Number 1 clip features Will Smith on The Graham Norton Show performing a song medley, including the theme to 90s sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel Air, with his son Jaden Smith, Alfonso Ribero, who played Carlton in the series, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. It has been on the BBC YouTube Channel for over two years and has now been knocked down to second place. Bob Shennan, Director of BBC Music, says: “I’m delighted to see such a phenomenal response to the show in the UK, and to see the magical sketch gain a huge global audience who are enjoying and sharing the BBC’s content.”Source: ArticleImage: Flickr.com

MY Inspiration Is To Find Myself Again

MY Inspiration Is To Find Myself Again: With films like Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express, Siddharth Anand’s Bang Bang, Karan Johar’s Gori Tere Pyar Mein, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Milan Talkies and Farah Khan’s Happy New New Year to their credit there is no looking back for music composers Vishal –Shekhar. However Shekhar Ravjiani of the duo says that there is more to life than just composing music. The music composer has just released his second Marathi single Saavli recently. The song has been appreciated by one and all and Shekhar has got more than Seventy Thousand hits in just two days on you tube. We talk to the composer turned singer about his new journey in bollywood. Your song has been highly appreciated and Shah Rukh Has also sung some verses we heard? How did it happen?: I am humbled by the appreciation. It has been unbelievable. I have to thank my director friend Ravi Jadhav who has written the lyrics of the song. Incidentally it is the first time he has written the lyrics. I was shocked that so many people have viewed it. I have got so many fan mails right from Israel, Afghanistan, South Africa, Iceland, Russia and East Africa” says Shekhar.Shah Rukh Khan has always been a great friend. He came to meet me for Chennai Express I told him that I have sung this song and recorded it. He evinced keen interest and wanted to see it. I also revealed that the proceeds of this song would go to an NGO Maniketan a home of 300 little girls. When he came to know the cause he immediately agreed to be a part of it. He narrated a few lines of the shayari written by Amitabh Battacharya. Shah Rukh has also tweeted about it. “My friend/ Music director singer and generally a good guy” “ What is this NGO all about?: It was introduced to me by Ravi Jadhav. I wanted to give the proceeds of the song to some NGO. He suggested this NGO. He lives in Thana and he knew about this home which consists of 300 girls. These girls are looked after and given education and are looked after till they get married. The girls have been abandoned by their families. The collections are good. We have also given it as downloads and ringtones now so I am glad that I will be able to do something good for them. When did your passion for singing start?: I started writing my own songs 13 years ago. I have written so many songs for me it was a routine. I didn’t know what to do with them. Will you sing and compose them too?: Maybe I will compose a few of them and sing a few in the future. I have no plans of reviving them now. I have been given a format by directors so far and I accordingly. It is all according to their choice. How did this album happen? I was enjoying composing but I decided to do something and last year I started composing a tune for myself. I wanted to do something for myself. I have a platform so why not make use of it. Ravi Jadhav the director of Balak Palak happened to come and meet me. I asked him for the name of a Marathi lyricist. He asked me what it was for. I told him I had composed a tune and wanted someone to write Marathi lyrics for me. He said he would write it for me. He is a big name in Marathi cinema and he has written for the first time. I told him to coin words in a way that I would sound like a Marathi singer. I worked hard on it. I practiced as I loved challenges. I learnt the words. It is a very Jack Johnson very acoustic and guitar based song. Your first single Saajani had also been written by Ravi Jadhav. How did Sunidhi Chauhan come into Saavli? Saajani was a huge hit on you tube and competed with Dhanush’s Kolaveri Di and that’s what inspired me to do Saavali. I had composed a song Haravali pakhare for Marathi film Balapk Palak. Ravi Jadhav the directed suggested we do a video for this ong. He integrated scenes of Balak Palak as visuals for this film. I showed the song to Sunidhi Chauhan when she visited me and asked her if she would like to be apart of the song. She agreed and sang a few lines. Why a song on Marathi?: I can speak basic Marathi. In school I was fairly good inn the language. Later I stayed in Nasik for four years in Tapovan where we had a grape orchard. I had a lot of friends there. In Marathi music I love Ajay Atul’s work. Singing in Marathi was a challenge for me. After this I am planning my third single in Tamil and the fourth in Bengali and fifth in Malayalam and so on. The proceeds of all these songs will go to Maniketan . But you are a Kutchi any plans to do a song in your mother tongue? Have you heard their folk?: I am a Kutchi and want to do a song in my mother tongue. I have not heard their folk yet and don’t want to as I don’t work with fixed notions in my head. Do you plan to incorporate your song into any Marathi film?: I don’t mind provided they do something for my NGO Maniketan. From where do you draw inspiration for your music and songs? “Inspiration comes from life. I started with a groove on percussion. I sit on the harmonium. I have no structure. My inspiration is to find myself again. I give it hundred percent and people love and appreciate it. I believe that when you compose things from your heart it will work for you. I had written, composed and arranged one song ‘Dil se door na jaana ‘from Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi. I usually pen down my lyrics and write poetries too. We have heard so much about you and Vishal where and when did your association with Vishal Begin? We are close friends and we enjoy working and fun thing for us. We look forward to composing newer tunes everyday. Our music is going to grow higher and higher. There is no stagnation I am introducing my own expertise in another area. We have been together for so many years now. We met when I was working for MAD films and would do jingles for them. I was working with Raj Kaushal and I met Vishal in the same studio. He was working on another film. We met and showed each other our music and we did the title track for Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi together for the first time and there was no looking back ever since. When and what age did you start learning music? :I belong to a business family and have been trained under Ustad Niyaz Ahmed Khan. I was also trained under Jagjit Singh who was a family friend. I learnt Piano from Xaviers. It was my hobby. I was staying and it was my friend who introduced me to Mukul. I was singing and doing music for jingles. At that time I had gone with my friend for the Saregama Auditions. We were sitting in the audience and would look at the contestants and would be amazed at their talent. I had just done six months of training from them. Students of Pt. Bhimsain Joshi and Suresh Wadkar were participating. My friend forced me to give an audition. I sang the song ‘tu hi re’ from Bombay. I got selected. I was shocked. I was giving a tough fight to Aditya a student of Hridaynath Mangeshkar. My parents were in London. I called my dad and told him that I was selected but I was not sure I would win. Dad said “winning or losing was not important be happy in what you are doing and learning. I lost by five points. The winner got 95 points.” Now that you have made a debut with your album any plans to act in films?: I have got many offers but no I will not act. I am destined to do this. For now I am enjoying my stint as a singer and composer” he concludes. Interview by Shama Bhagat, Source: Page3

Liverpool to celebrate Beatles Day

The numerous fans of The Beatles in Liverpool are going to celebrate Beatles Day. The residents of Liverpool, which is the home town of the legendary group are very serious about the upcoming event, a representative of the city administration said. "We stage a great number events dedicated to the famous group every year," the Mayor’s Office said. A whole day musical program is being planned by the Cavern Club, where the brilliant quartet performed for the first time 50 years ago. Rock bands will perform the group’s greatest hits there on Saturday. The Beatles performed there 292 times - from February 1961 to August 1963, ITAR-TASS reported. Excursion bus tours will be organized in Liverpool in memory of the famous group. The festivities will continue all year round, the VisitLiverpool agency noted. The 50th anniversary of the debut guest performances of The Beatles in the USA will be celebrated on February 7, and on July 10 – the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ visiting the Mayor’s Office. The traditional International Week, titled "The Beatles", (August 20 to 26), will bring together Beatles fans from all parts of the world. The musical festival will include live concerts, exhibitions, lectures, video shows, excursions, and auctions of memorable objects. The famous English group, including John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and drummer Pete Best, came into being in 1960. But in 1962 Ringo Starr replaced him. In the period from 1962 to 1970 The Beatles released 12 full length albums, 13 mini-albums and 22 singles. The Beatles stopped their joint work in 1970 but in 1967 McCartney and Lennon started implementing their own projects. After the group disintegrated, its former members started performing solo. John Lennon died on December 8, 1980 – he was shot dead outside his New York apartment. George Harrison died from cancer on November 29, 2001. Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney continue to write music and give concerts in their home country and abroad. According to the electronic version of Britain’s NME ( New Musical Express) magazine, they plan to give a joint concert at the Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony, due to take place in Los Angeles on January 26, Source: Article

This is What '90s Singer Brian Adams Would do to an Opel Adam

Opel tells us that Canadian-born singer/songwriter Brian Adams whose career certainly peaked way before he had to fly to Kathmandu, Nepal to get kudos, is also a respected photographer, it seems. Undoubtedly an interesting fact in and of itself, but what’s more eye-catching is that now he’s also entered a creative partnership with them that has thus far resulted in this customized Adam city car, shot artistically from multiple angles. The lovely set of photos can be found after the virtual jump, which you can cross by scrolling down. Once you do, you’ll see that the mini-MINI-DS3 (attempt) proudly wearing camouflage and its country’s colors to reinforce its image, and at one point even has the nice model in suitably skintight clothing stand in front of it and cover most of it up. Granted, even then, the lively livery shows through... Mr. Adams went to all the trouble to make the Adam look cool for a calendar that will be on display at an event planned for early next year at the Haus der Kunst museum, located in Munich. There, it will have a light shone on it for three days between January 23 and 26, by which time, they will have realized that a car won’t sell well in a sustained manner unless it has substance and identity; a big turbo might fix that, though. No amount of silly marketing glitter will make it fly out of showrooms faster (aside from the aforementioned means of forced induction, of course). By Andrei Nedelea, Source: Article

Madonna, highest-paid woman in music

US singer Madonna arrives to promote her latest gym in her Hard Candy Fitness centre chain in Berlin October 17, 2013.[Photo/Agencies]
Pop singer Madonna is the highest-paid woman in music, earning US$125 million, according to Forbes on Wednesday. She is also the highest-earning celebrity overall with her income for 12 months, Forbes said. Agencies reported that much of her earnings from Jun. 2012 to Jun. 2013 were from her worldwide MDNA Tour, which pulled in US$305 million. But the 55-year-old singer, who jumped from ninth place in 2012, also made money with merchandising sales, her fragrance and from her Material Girl clothing line. She is "music's top earner of any genre or gender and the highest-paid celebrity of any stripe," said Forbes. Lady Gaga, with US$80 million, jumped from No. 4 to No. 2 this year, despite her Born This Way Ball tour being cut short due to an injury. Gaga, 27, released her album "ARTPOP" after the cutoff date for Forbes' annual earnings calculations. Swift, 23, dropped from second place in 2012 to third this year. Her US$55 million in earnings came from sales of her latest album "Red" as well as endorsement deals, records sales and touring. Forbes compiled the list after estimating pre-tax income based on record sales, concert tickets, touring information merchandise sales and interviews with concert promoters, lawyers and managers. It also looked at data from the Pollstar trade magazine, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan. Singer Beyonce, 32, came in fourth, not far behind with $53 million. The R&B star, who rose two places from last year, was also on the road with her Mrs. Carter World Tour, and earned cash from her House of Dereon clothing line and endorsement deals. Jennifer Lopez, 44, rounded out the top five women with $45 million. Although her earnings dropped after she left her spot as a judge on the TV singing competition show "American Idol," she still earned plenty of money from her world tour and the Latin singing competition show "Q'Viva" for the Fox television network. Country singer and 2005 "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood, 30, was a newcomer to the list at No. 9. Underwood, who played the lead role of Maria in a live version of "The Sound of Music" for television earlier this month, earned $31 million from her latest album "Blown Away" and touring, agencies reported. Source: China.org.cn

Going Gaga over MJ’s items

Pop star Lady Gaga purchased 55 items belonging to late singer Michael Jackson in a weekend auction that raised more than $5 million, a portion of which will be donated to charity, Julien’s Auctions said. The auction, held in Beverly Hills, showcased 465 lots of items spanning Jackson's career through the years, including costumes and props used on tour and in music videos. Highlights from the sale included the late singer’s BAD tour jacket raising $240,000, a white glove selling for $192,000 and one of the singer’s Pepsi and Awards jacket garnering more than $68,000, the auction house said in a statement. Following Sunday’s auction, Gaga told her 31 million Twitter followers that “the 55 pieces I collected today will be archived & expertly cared for in the spirit & love of Michael Jackson, his bravery, & fans worldwide.” Jackson died aged 50 in June 2009 in Los Angeles from an overdose of the anesthetic propofol and sedatives. The collection of outfits, designed by Los Angeles-based collaborators Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush and gifted back to them by the late singer, were taken on a world tour earlier this year, traveling across South America, Europe and Asia. In September, British hat designer Philip Treacy designed his first London fashion week show in a decade around Jackson’s auction costumes, which were worn by the models down the runway and accessorised with hats inspired by the late singer’s life. Gaga not only attended Treacy’s show but was on hand to introduce the milliner's collection. The auction exceeded pre-sale estimates of $1 million to $2 million, and a portion of the final amount raised will benefit the Guide Dogs of America and Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas. Source: Screen-India

Beatles’ first single 50th anniversary

битлз битлс the beatles винил музей битломании
Fifty years ago today two British icons made their first appearances before a wider public. On the fifth of October 1962, the very first Beatles single Love Me Do and the very first James Bond film, Dr No, were released. Hundreds of millions of album and ticket sales later, Hywel Davies takes a look at the Fab Four and 007.
.Subscribe
The Beatles had been a working band for two years before George Martin agreed to take a chance on them. He didn’t even like their music much. But he said he liked the four Liverpudlians when he met them and thought they might develop. Martin got the band a contract and they released their first single “Love Me Do” on the 5th of October, 1962. It eventually went to №17 in the charts. Stuart Borthwick, lecturer in Popular Music Studies at Liverpool John Moores University, says the song isn’t that stellar. Personally I feel that the Beatles progressed musically through their career. I do feel that the level of complexity and the nuances of their later work is stronger than in earlier works. Doctor No, the first James Bond film, was also released 50 years ago today with the cool danger-sounding music of John Barry heralding the audience in cinemas of the ultimate spy. Since then it’s estimated that a quarter of the world’s population has seen a Bond film. The director of Next Skyfall is Sam Mendes. He says the film’s become essential part of British childhood, for boys anyway. I’ve always been a huge fan of Bond movies as a child and, of course, every young English schoolboy grows up with them. In a sense, it’s part of my life. And I vividly remember the first time I saw one of the Bond movies, ‘Live and Let Die’, and the impact it had on me. Mark Mollohan, film writer on the Daily Telegraph, says there’re good reasons the film has endured, stretching out over 22 outings now. There’re lots of reasons. I think the main reason is that is a pure trilling escapicism, above all. Bond is – I’m not the first – a person that every woman wants to go out with and every man wants to be. And I think he still is. The Beatles by contrast didn’t last as long as the Bond movies. The band split up in 1970 after just 8 years as recorded artists. Stuart Borthwick, however, points out that they developed amazingly fast and gained more, he says, in those 8 short years than any other band. I think, in terms of their musical and intellectual development, they developed more in those 8 years than, I think, any band has done in any time scale. So it’s the Beatles’ ability to move on from their debut, to become more complex and sophisticated – that’s at the heart of much of their appeal. But it’s the same true of Bond. Mark Mollohan says it’s actually the opposite. “We like Bond – at least, partially, – because things stay the same. We look forward to seeing him invincible using gadgets to get out of trouble, driving fast cars and always managing to seduce the woman with a teasing name.” In a sense, Bond is the formula. We won’t expect certain things from a Bond movie and we certainly don’t want to deviate too much from that. One of the fundamental differences often between film and TV is that we demand that the TV doesn’t change from episode-to-episode or series-to-series. Fundamental difference with the film is that we expect some sort of character-up. Absolutely not so in James Bond! Fans of both these British icons today have the chance to celebrate. Perhaps the Beatles and Bond don’t have all that much in common beyond the world-wide success on a scale they wouldn’t have been able to imagine 50 years ago.Source: Voice of Russia

Most Of Lady Gaga's 29 Million Twitter Followers Aren't Real

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga may have been the first person to have passed the 20 million follower mark on twitter, but a new social media tool that verifies whether followers are real or not shows that more than half of Mother Monster's near 29 million followers aren't actually people. UK social media company StatusPeople created a new tool to see whether users are actual people who are actively following a user's account; ones who signed up for an account and followed some people at first but no longer access the account; or if they're accounts set up by spammers. Rob Waller, an executive at StatusPeople, recently told the UK's Guardian that the company analyzed Lady Gaga's account and found that only 29 percent of her followers fall into its "good" ranking. "A fake account is set up to follow people or send out spam. They normally have no followers, but follow large numbers of people," Waller explains. "An inactive account is one in which there has been no activity for a while. They could be real people, but we would describe them as consumers of information rather than sharers of information. A good account is everything that remains." The tool takes into account only the latest 100,000 followers on an account, and consistently finds that about one third of them are good ones. This, of course, is when it comes to celebrities. By comparison, UK soccer star Wayne Rooney's good followers number 30 percent of his nearly five million followers; and comedian Ricky Gervais, who is nearing the three million mark boasts a 34 percent good rating. We hate to break it to you Gaga, but you've really only got about 8.4 million twitter followers. © 2012 Starpulse.com Photo Credits: Felipe Ramales, PacificCoastNews.com, Source: Starpulse.com

Sobbing Rihanna confides in Oprah Winfrey

Rihanna has treated her fans with racy black and white pictures of herself on Facebook. The Good Girl Gone Bad singer took inspiration from Cleopatra for Peace and Love Festival. HAUTE! Rihanna at Peace and Love Festival
A sobbing Rihanna has told Oprah Winfrey she felt protective of boyfriend Chris Brown after he beat her up more than three years ago and was concerned that everyone would think of him as a monster. The "Umbrella" singer, in a rare emotional TV interview set to air on Sunday detailing her thoughts about the highly publicized 2009 assault, told Winfrey that the days and weeks after incident left her confused and ashamed. "It was embarrassing, it was humiliating," Rihanna told Winfrey in the interview, excerpts of which were released on Thursday. "I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched, switched in a night, and I couldn't control that. "It was a weird, confusing space to be in. Because as angry as I was - as angry and hurt and betrayed - I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help. And who's going to help him? "Nobody's going to say he needs help. Everybody's going to say he's a monster, without looking at the source. And I was more concerned about him," she added. Rihanna, now 24, was left battered and bruised from the beating by Brown in Los Angeles on the eve of the Grammy Awards in February 2009. Brown, 19 at the time and a rising R&B singer, pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to five years probation, community service and domestic violence counseling. He publicly apologized, but his career and public image took a dive. Brown's career has since recovered, and he won his first Grammy award earlier this year for the hit album F.A.M.E. Rihanna has rarely opened up emotionally in public about the events of that night. Winfrey, who interviewed Rihanna in the singer's Barbados home, said in a promotion for Sunday's show that she had started with a fixed idea of Rihanna based on her provocative music videos and sexually charged lyrics, but her view quickly changed. "I thought she was going to be kind of a badass, kind of a hard-edged rocker, pop woman. Nothing could have been further from the truth," Winfrey said. The full interview will be broadcast on Sunday on Winfrey's OWN cable network. Soource: Hindustan Times
